Salt is getting poisonous, and we are eating poison in name of salt. Plastic has found a way in our body!

Soon we are going to be plastic men. Because as much we try to stay away from plastics, but plastics find a way into our lives. We can’t imagine a life without salt. Salt is everywhere in our life from the curry to chat. I have studied and heard from people that salt was a precious material until we began to extract salt from the sea. But now this extraction of salt from sea and ocean have been silently feeding us poison.

A research carried out in the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B)has revealed that table salt sold in India are likely to contain microplastics from polluted sea water. A two-member team from the institute’s Center for Environmental science and Engeneering (CESE) found a total of 626 micro-plastic particles across samples (totalling 24 kg) of eight popular Indian salt brands included in the study, of which 63% comprised plastic fragments and 37% were plastic fibers.

As on in many countries which have researched in their manufactured salt has also found microplastics in it from polluted sea water. But the study carried out in India is very important because we are the third largest manufacturer of edible and industrial salt after US and China. And Indian salt is exported to many countries in the world. So, a large number of global population is bound to affect by using it.

This is a very grim and dangerous situation for us. Forget about the cheap bags of salt but even the triple refined salts are not healthy for us. This is a silent poison for us and it is killing us. When we ingest these microplastics into our body then it affects us very badly. The effects are:

  1. Direct toxicity, as in the cases of lead, cadmium, and mercury.
  2. Carcinogens, as in the case of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP).
  3. Endocrine disruption, which can lead to cancers, birth defects, immune system suppression and developmental problems in children.

These scary and most dangerous diseases are getting into our body because of salt! As for me I am addicted to salt and can’t eat my meal without a spoonful of it and sometimes I add raw salt to my taste. Can you stay away from eating it? How your life will change if you stop consuming salts from tomorrow? Because sooner we might have really to do it.
